OUR STORY

 

Charlie was founded in 2013 as a typical Ghent café-restaurant, restoBAR Charlie, located in the Patershol, the oldest neighborhood in Ghent.

Ghent local and co-founder Nick Vandecasteele spent many years enthusiastically serving drinks behind the bar, enjoying a vibrant nightlife filled with fun and rock 'n roll. His passion for the city and its rich history was shared daily with regulars and tourists alike, always in an entertaining way! A side job as a local city guide seemed almost written in the stars. And so it happened. But that wasn’t the end of the story. In late 2017, Nick decided to permanently close restoBAR Charlie.

OUR MISSION

We believe that as a tourist organisation we can contribute to a warmer society. This translates into various initiatives in the cities where we are active, such as sponsoring local events like quizzes, collections for charity & our very own football team Charlie Shot. But we also like to go a step further: Charlie Tours regularly gives free tours to newcomers, because we are convinced that their integration is a good thing for both themselves and the society they end up in. We do this in collaboration with various (government) organisations, such as AMAL and the Agency for Integration and Civic Integration East Flanders.

We are still looking for a few enthusiastic Ghent and Bruges guides to join our team, as an extra income (+- 2 tours/month). Experience is not a must. A lot of enthusiasm & desire to learn, are essential. Interested? Then fill in the form below.
